HELP US SUPPORT TAF

Join Us As We Celebrate Summer!

At long last summer is upon us!  I don't know of many better ways to kick off the season than to meet up with friends on a warm night.  So throw on your shorts, grab your shades, and join us and over 20 partner organizations for our annual Summer Celebration at Pyramid Brewery in Seattle.   We'll be taking over the beer garden with food, live music and lots of cold beer!

And speaking of great things to do in the summer - if you are interested in joining leaders from across the technology industry for a round of golf, join us at our 13th Annual Golf Tournament, July 28th at Glendale Golf and Country Club.  You don't need to be a low handicapper to play - this is a best ball tourney.

On behalf of all of us at the WTIA we wish you a great summer in the Northwest and if you haven't officially become part of the WTIA community we encourage you to join us!

ADVOCACY & OUTREACH

Please Act Now to Extend Federal R&D Credit
In addition to being very active at the state level on public policy issues of importance to the technology community, WTIA also weighs in with our elected officials in the "other Washington" on important issues.  The federal R&D tax credit is one of those issues.  Congress has dithered on extending the federal R&D tax credit for too long and now it is time for the tech community to let Congress, particularly the U.S. Senate, know in no uncertain terms to get this done, and in fact, make this tax credit permanent.

Below is the text of the e-mail we received from the Software Finance and Tax Executives Council urging the employees of software and technology firms to weigh in now.

"As you know, the R & D credit expired at the end of last year.  The House has passed a bill extending several expired or expiring tax provisions, including a one-year extension of the credit (effective Jan. 1 2008).  The Senate has been unable to take the bill up over a dispute about whether the revenue cost of certain extenders should be offset by tax increases in other areas.
