WTIA Endorses
Governor Gregoire The WTIA is endorsing Governor Christine Gregoire
for governor. This was not an easy decision as we have passionate members
who support both candidates. In addition, both candidates have solid records
of support for the key issues that WTIA advocates for on tax issues, K-12, higher
education and association health plans. In fact a case could be made to
either endorse both candidates or simply not endorse at all.
But Gov. Gregoire really stepped up when it came to higher
education in the current state budget. She really gets it when it comes
to understanding that developing talent is the key to succeeding in the global
economy. She has a done a good job as "chief sales officer" of the state,
a role that governors must play today to promote their state's products and services.
She also has moved the ball on K-12 education by placing emphasis on
improving math and science teaching, standards and curriculum. We look forward
to seeing Gov. Gregoire continue those efforts to improve K-12 education.
It is critical to the future of the state.
